Just when faith in music seems lost, a fresh new sound hails from Philadelphia. Dysrhythmia, formed in 1999, fashions a take-no-prisoners attitude with their genre-defying sound and adrenaline-induced live performances. Within 10 minutes of their new release Contradiction [should be No Interference-KH], listeners get it all: metal, indie rock, a little jazz -and even some punk. The schizophrenic skipping of their melodies leaves the listener confused and a little battered, but begging for more at the same time. Just as the beating of the music reaches it's peak, the softer side of the band lulls and allows for some breathing run. Then the pace picks up again and the listener is left bewildered but invigorated. After four US tours, Clayton Ingerson, Kevin Hufnagel, and Jeff Eber are ready to blow a few more eardrums with their headlining sets this fall. Setting new standards for rock with each performance, the venues they frequent are changed for the better. Technician, fellow Philadelphia rockers, offers a six-song release Opposition much in the spirit of Dysrhythmia with music described as math rock. Pounding drums, twangy bass riffs and slashing guitar sounds haunt listeners long after the music ceases. When combined, these two bands could cause the apocalypse. - Melynda Puller
